Residents of the Icelandic town of Grindavik were evacuated after a new volcanic eruption on the Reykjanes peninsula in the southwest of the country. The nearby Blue Lagoon geothermal spa, Iceland's biggest tourist attraction, said it had also evacuated its facilities. The Iceland Meteorological Office said plumes reached a height of “at least 50 metres”. This is the fifth eruption on the peninsula since December and comes almost three weeks after the end of a previous eruption that had been ong
