The United States Coast Guard (USCG) has chosen the Birmingham-Southern College campus as a new training facility.
A second recruit training facility was needed because the Coast Guard is planning to add 15,000 new service members by 2028, DHS said.
The Coast Guard could start training new members at the site by the end of the year.
